2022 Red Carpet Gowns: Silver is Trending!

Awards season is in full swing and silver is trending. Here are the best silver 2022 red carpet gowns so far.

Alexandra Daddario – SAG Awards

From Daily Mail

Alexandra Daddario achieved classic Hollywood glamour at the 2022 SAG Awards. She wore a stunning draped metallic gown from Atelier Versace. The dress is a classic romanesque draped cut in a soft silver fabric. Gathered at the shoulders and plunging into a deep v, the dress then gathers again at the waist to reveal a thigh high slit just below.

Daddario’s deep brunette hair stood in stark contrast to her silver gown and was complemented by a dark lip. She wore her hair down in a side part with soft curls. She accessorized the look with art deco floral Debeers earrings and Christian Louboutin heels. This is undoubtedly one of the best of 2022 red carpet gowns.

Lady Gaga – SAG Awards

Lady Gaga appeared on the SAG red carpet in a flawless strapless gown by Armane Prive. The column dress was strapless, white, and contained a neckline that was embellished with silver sequins.

She wore her platinum hair down in loose waves. Her eye makeup included a dramatic cat eye with a bright silver eye shadow. A soft coral lip and beauty mark finished her look.

She wore a stunning Tiffany & Co diamond necklace. The Flower and Leaves necklace is from Tiffany’s 2022 Blue Book Collection but was originally designed by Jean Schlumberger in 1958 who was a French designer that rose to prominence in New York after WWII. The necklace is a rare diamond only design by Schlumberger who traditionally used colored stones but is representative of his other designs with its gold tendrils that weave throughout the necklace.

Serena Williams – SAG Awards

Serena Williams wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown to the 2022 SAG awards to support the film King Richard. The gown is made of an eye-catching silver bustier bodysuit that is overlaid with a white draped sleeve and skirt. It looks very modern and athletic yet achieves a classic elegance.

She wore thin strappy Stuart Witzman heels. The Rodo clutch she carried matched perfectly to her dress with its silver rhinestones and heart-shaped design. She wore Gismondi 1754 jewels including a diamond tennis bracelet and diamond drop earrings.

This dramatic outfit was complimented by subtle nude makeup and natural curly hair that was drawn back by intricate braids.

Olivia Rodriguez – Brit Awards

Olivia Rodrigo attended her second Brit Awards this year and wore a shining Alexandre Vauthier gown that was completely covered in sequins with a fishtail of large chevrons.

The slip dress helped to create an ode to the ’90s complete with her Guiseppe Zanotti wedges, Djula and Poche rings, and Stefere earrings. Rodrigo styled her look with Alanis Morisette-style waves, a dark lip, and blush. She also had a beautiful silver smokey eye and finely drawn winged liner.

One Of The Best Dresses At The 2022 BAFTAs: Rebel Wilson’s Couture Gown

One of the best dresses at the 2022 BAFTAs was Rebel Wilson’s Gimabattista Valli gown. Wilson was this year’s host at the BAFTAs and the comedic actress impressed with her red carpet fashion and custom Bulgari jewels.

Rebel Wilson’s 2022 BAFTA Gown

The star selected the couture Giambattista gown with her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, because of it’s old-Hollywood look. The gown is strapless and trimmed at the neckline with a wide band of tulle. This look may be overwhelming on some women, however, on Wilson, it was delicate and complimented her slim shoulders.

The gown features a trapeze-cut with a satin bow tie-waste. The bottom half of the gown is three levels of lavish tulle that add soft volume to the look. The dress is dripping in deep blue sequins that are arranged in an intricate design.

A standout from all other gowns on the red carpet, this was one of the best dresses of the 2022 BAFTAs.

The Giambattista Valli 2019 Couture Collection

Rebel Wilson’s dress was originally shown in Giambattista Valli’s spring/summer 2019 couture collection. Giambattista Vali is an Italian designer based in Rome. He shows both ready to wear and Haute couture collections twice a year at Paris Fashion week.

Yves Saint Laurent was the inspiration for the 2019 Spring/Summer collection. The runway of the couture show was filled with tulle, bows, and sequins that were shown on uniquely young silhouettes. Almost every garment was covered with mesmerizing embellishments and embroidery.

One of the best dresses in the collection, Rebel Wilson’s BAFTA gown was a shining example from the show.

Rebel Wilson’s Hair, Makeup, and Jewelry

Wilson’s look was completed by flawless hair, makeup, and mouthwatering accessories.

For her hair, she wore a gorgeous swept back old Hollywood, yet modern up-do. This hairstyle framed her face with a beautifully flowing bang and deep side-part.

Wilson’s neutral makeup was glamorized by thick winged eyeliner and super shiny lip gloss and her cheeks gleamed with a bronzy coral blush.

Wilson wore Bulgari jewelry that included floral-shaped diamond earrings and a huge diamond and sapphire ring. She also carried a black Bulgari clutch from the designer’s accessory line to finalize her red carpet look.

See a close up of these gorgeous Bulgari accessories and the last touches on the look in Wilson’s Instagram video below.

Rebel Wilson’s Take On Fashion

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Wilson said, “I used to be one of those people who thought fashion was frivolous but then, when I learnt more about it, I started to understand the incredible artistry that goes into designing and making clothes – and it really can be exquisite, you admire the creators. Fashion is a creative outlet, and all creativity should be encouraged.

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter to me what anyone wears. It matters that you’re a good person. But I do appreciate when someone rocks up wearing a fabulous, well thought-out outfit and stuns – it’s impressive.”

You go, Rebel!

The Exclusive World of Couture

Couture Fashion Week this January brought its share of lavish clothing. From breath-taking gowns to exquisite street wear with architectural silhouettes, the runways were full of dreamlike and dramatic clothing. Haute couture houses elevate fashion to a whole new level and few ateliers bear this esteemed title. Welcome to the exclusive world of couture.

History of Haute Couture

The first couture house in Paris was established by Englishman Charles Frederick Worth in 1858. Worth transformed the fashion industry when he elevated the concept of a simple dressmaker by coining the term ‘fashion designer’ as an artist of luxury women’s fashion.

In 1868 requirements were put in place for designers to have to earn the right to label themselves a couture house. These specifications were fully outlined in 1945 as follows:

  • Designs must be made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings
  • Each atelier must have at least 20 members of staff
  • Each season, the couture house must present a collection of at least 35 runs with both daytime and evening wear to the Paris press.

After WWII the couture industry was revived by Dior’s ‘New Look’ collection which featured tight waists, stiff petticoats, and billowing skirts. The collection is the definition of iconic because it essentially ushered in the look that defined the next decade.

In 1966 Yves Saint Laurent launched the first freestanding store in Paris. Soon, other designers followed.

Today, there is a long list of designers who show at couture fashion week twice a year in Paris. These designers range from long-time couture houses like Chanel to newcomers like Serkan Cura.

What Makes Haute Couture So Expensive?

Budget is not relevant for priceless couture garments because there is no limit to the time, money, and skill that goes into each piece. Haute couture clothing is tailor-made for the specific client according to the wearer’s measurements and body type. As such, couture items require up to 150 measurements, multiple fittings, and take thousands of hours to create. It is not uncommon for it to take up to 6 months to get each look from sketchbook to runway. Understanding the high level of specialized craftsmanship that goes into each piece helps to paint a picture of the true value of couture.

Couture clothing and accessories are made by as many as eight artisans per piece. These highly skilled workers make everything from feathers to buttons by hand. Many artisans work for small workshops called fournisseurs, luxury suppliers, many of which are now owned by Chanel.

See the process of how a Dior dress is made in the video below.

Who Owns Couture Clothing?

With a starting price of $30,000, there are fewer than 500 customers worldwide who typically buy and own haute couture clothing. Within the exclusive world of couture, Mouna Ayoub has the largest collection in the world including 1,600 pieces. Her most expensive gown costs over $450,000.

Why Is Couture Important To Fashion?

With a low number of sales and exorbitantly expensive designs and shows, the couture industry operates at a loss. The importance of couture and its profitability, however, lies outside of immediate sales. Fashion designer, Sharon Sever, says couture is, “what makes us dream. It’s the same reason people go to the movies. We’re in the dream industry.” This idea of selling a dream is what makes customers who are unable to afford the highest levels of couture buy the items they can afford, like perfume, cosmetics, and accessories. The elite level of design in couture fashion also gives the entire industry and its customers something to aspire to. Haute couture keeps fashion moving forward by inspiring new levels of innovation and creativity that.

The Queen Of On-Theme Fashion Moments: Remembering Zendaya’s Dune-Inspired Gown At the Venice Film Festival

Zendaya has become an absolute fashion icon and she has not disappointed in recent red carpets. Not only are her looks incredibly chic but they are also on theme with the movie or TV show she is representing. With the help of her incredibly talented stylist, Law Roach, she curates looks that include subtle or not-so-subtle nods to the overall vibe or characters of her films and shows. This creates memorable fashion moments that are generating as much buzz as the blockbusters she is representing.

Zendaya delivered one of her most well-known thematic looks at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021 while representing Dune. She wore a couture Balmain gown that was crafted from leather using an exact model of her bust much like the pink breastplate dress from Tom Ford that went viral at the Critics’ Choice Awards in 2020.

With this ensemble, Zendaya and her stylist were looking to recreate the wet look of an Italian marble statue. The color of the dress was dyed to perfectly match the color of her skin, which also happens to be an extremely “Dune” color. The combination of the fit and fabric creates the illusion of a dress that is barely there, structured, and flowy all at the same time. It does not leave much room for the imagination and is a masterpiece of fashion.

The gown is sleeveless with a rounded neckline and includes draping across the chest and down from the waist. A thigh high slit highlighted Zendaya’s lengthy legs. She finished the look with a middle-parted curly wet hair style, stiletto nude pumps, a bronze smokey eye, as well as a 93-carat diamond and emerald necklace from Bvlgari’s Magnifica collection.

Let’s take a minute for this showstopping necklace. The focal point is a cabochon-cut Colombian emerald that is resting in the jaw of a coiled snake which is encrusted with pave-set diamonds, emerald cabochons, and diamond baguettes. The necklace is handmade and took a team of artisans a total of 1,899 hours to create (nearly 2.5 months). The design represents eternal life and feminine seduction: very fitting for Chani, the character Zendaya portrays in Dune.

Other memorable moments where Zendaya’s thematic looks really impressed include an all-Valentino lineup with the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere’s custom beaded spider web gown, the green goblin inspired purple and green suit that she wore on the Graham Norton Show, and the black and white striped vintage gown she wore at the Euphoria season 2 premier earlier this year. According to IMDb, her next big premier will be Dune 2, so the world will need to wait a minute before seeing her next inspired look.
